Reflections from Our Pastor
Now that we know something of the process we will follow during our interim
while we are searching for TBC’s next pastor, let’s never forget the context in
which we will be ministering now and in the future.
It is nothing short of a miracle that you are now firmly situated in the
vigorous suburbs of Raleigh on Leesville Road. A potent mixture of God’s grace
and the peoples’ genius eventuated in this re-location in 2001. The transition
has been no more traumatic than many congregations have experienced during such
a move.
Now, look where you are and consider the challenge of your fields, which are
“white unto harvest.”
Dr. Roger Nix, in a superb RBA Connections article recently, addressed the
matter of how Christians encounter or engage their culture. His insights arise
out of the work of Chad Hall whose research in our city, county, and state has
resulted in a fine article to be found at:
http://www.coolchurches.com/articles/engaging.html.
Consider this data:
When asked their greatest concerns, Wake County households ranked the following
as their top three:
-Achieving long-term financial security in spite of the fact that the average
household income is $79,815 per year.
-Maintaining personal health.
-Dealing with stress and strain.
Approximately 65 people per day make the Research Triangle (certainly now a part
of the TBC church fields) area their home, positioning ours as the
fastest-growing metro area in North Carolina since 1990.
The Triangle (our church field) boasts one of the most highly educated and
diverse work forces in the nation. They are attracted by healthy and wholesome
church
families; and repelled by those who show disease and conflict.
Moreover:
Wake County is the highest growth county in North Carolina.
Raleigh has the best education per capita in North Carolina.
Raleigh-Durham is the best region for single adults in the state.
Raleigh is the best “Walking City” in the state, and has been designated by Inc.
Magazine the leading “Boom Town” in North Carolina.
Raleigh-Cary is the best metro area in NC for Business and Relocation according
to Expansion Management Magazine and Site Selection Magazine.
Our marching orders from headquarters are clear and crisp, straight from Jesus,
the Lord of the Church in Raleigh and the world –“GO WITH ME…I AM WITH YOU
ALWAYS.” (Matthew 28:19-20). Notice the prepositions. We are not alone in this
rare journey into our fields. We are accompanied!
I’ll see you Sunday!
