Dr. Wayne Hager became the 25th pastor of Tabernacle on August 1, 2008, after previously serving churches in Kentucky and North Carolina. Dr. Hager is a 1981 Master of Divinity and 1987 Doctor of Philosophy graduate of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and did graduate work at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, OH. Wayne currently serves on the Board of Ministers of Wingate University and the Ordination Committee of the Raleigh Baptist Association.
A native of Lexington, KY , and a 1978 graduate of the University of Kentucky, Wayne met his wife, Joy, in Louisville, KY , at seminary. Joy is a native of Raleigh, NC, where she attended First Baptist Church and was ordained to the gospel ministry in 1983. Joy is a graduate of Appalachian State University (BS), The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity in Social Work) and Kent School of Social Work, University of Louisville (Master of Science in Social Work). Joy currently serves as Program Director of Maple Court Transitional Housing for Veterans in Durham, NC. The Hagers have three children: Matthew, a senior Theater Arts major at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Nathan, a sophomore at Wake Forest University, and Laura, a senior at Leesville Road High School.

Tabernacle Baptist Church welcomed Candy Wilson and her husband, Dick, in June 2009 as they moved to Raleigh from Louisville, KY where Candy was Associate Minister/Minister of Music at Jeffersontown Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She has also served in United Methodist churches and is very happy to be returning to her Baptist roots.
Candy graduated from Wingate University with a Bachelor of Music Education and from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Church Music. In 1982, First Baptist Church of Clyde, NC ordained Candy into the ministry.

Phyllis was born and raised in northeastern Pennsylvania. She graduated with honors from Bob Jones University (1968) with degrees in Education and Food Service Management. She worked at Penn State supervising the Nittany Lions Training Table and managing a cafeteria. Phyllis has served churches for the past 34 years in various capacities. TBC called Phyllis as Minister of Education in 2001. She has attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and Union Theological Seminary in Richmond. She is the first female to be ordained to the Gospel Ministry by Tabernacle Baptist Church.
She has been married to Phil (yes Phil & Phyllis) for 40 years. They have 2 married children, 5 grandchildren and 3 granddogs. Her hobbies include swimming, sewing, cooking, and lots of laughter with friends. Serving God and sharing His love are life goals for Phyllis.

Peggy Holland graduated from Meredith College with a BA in Voice and she has been singing, teaching and directing music ever since. She has served several churches as Minister of Music and has also had the responsibility for youth and senior adult ministries. Peggy recently served as Tabernacle's Interim Minister of Music while also leading the senior adult program. She is also the Music Director for the Raleigh Baptist Association and a member of the North Carolina Baptist Singers.
Peggy and her husband George have been married for 55 years. They have two sons and 8 grandchildren. |

Esther received a Master of Divinity from Campbell University Divinity School. She serves as a Regional Children’s Specialist for the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, training children’s leaders throughout the state. Esther served as the Interim Children’s Director at First Baptist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina. She also served as a Chaplain at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh. Esther received an MSBA from Boston University in Massachusetts and a BA in Business Administration and English from Wesleyan College in Georgia. She was ordained at First Baptist Church in Raleigh.
Esther and her husband Tim grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, and celebrate over 30 years of marriage. They both enjoyed Tim’s career in the Air Force before settling in Raleigh in 1999. Esther and Tim have two children: Laura is a junior at Elon University and John will be a freshman at Elon in the fall. Esther enjoys attending the theatre, reading, cooking (especially Lebanese food), and most of all spending time with her family. |

Minister of Counseling and Spiritual Formation

Brian Daugherty was born and raised in Lexington , Kentucky . He then lived for eleven years in northern New Mexico , where he completed his BA in Psychology and his Masters in Clinical Social Work at Highlands University , in Las Vegas , New Mexico . In 2003 he moved to Raleigh , North Carolina , and joined Tabernacle Baptist Church that same year. In 2009 he completed his Masters in Divinity with a concentration in Counseling and Chaplaincy at Campbell University , in Buies Creek , North Carolina . Brian has a P-LCSW, and is on course to transition to a LCSW in the spring of 2010.
Brian has worked full time in emergency services at Holly Hill Hospital , a local psychiatric facility, since 2003 providing crisis intervention and brief therapy. In addition he volunteers his time to the community by providing Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, or CISD, to first responders such as EMS and firemen. While at Campbell University Brian was trained in the World Religions Center to facilitate interfaith dialogue between Christians and Muslims, and he welcomes invitations from both Christian and Muslim communities to participate in that dialogue. |

Stephanie has been director of the preschool since 2004. She holds an Associates Degree in Science. Stephanie is married and has two children aged 16 and 18. She lives in North Raleigh and loves to exercise, read and be with family and friends. |

Lucille has been on the staff of Tabernacle for over 18 years, holding a variety of financial and office responsibilities. With a B.S. from East Carolina University (1983), an M.A. in Christian Education from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (1988), and an internship in Clinical Pastoral Education from WakeMed in Raleigh (2007), Lucille weaves her gifts for ministry with her financial responsibilities. She welcomes members and guests to her office. Lucille lives in northeast Raleigh and will happily talk with you about her grandson, Stephen, and her kitten, Sidney!

John retired after serving 20 years in the Army. He has been with TBC since 1997. John is married and has 7 children and 11 grandchildren. He is a member of Howell Chapel Disciples of Christ in Selma, NC. |
